Message from the Board – Joe Watts, President

The Garden Club proposed a new design for our entry ways and our landscaper has completed the project. Over 30 new shrubs and many pansies have been planted, adding much curb appeal to our neighborhood.

The Garden Club also decorated the entryways for the holidays. The Recreation Committee added the wreaths and ribbons along with decorating the clubhouse for all to enjoy. The decorations enhance the beauty of our neighborhood and welcome the holiday season!

A Very Special Thanks to both the Garden Club and Recreational Committee for their dedication to make our community a better and beautiful place to live.

Our landscaper has completed every requested project this year and the pride in their work is evident!

In the spirit of Thanksgiving I wish to say a special thank you to volunteers, staff, committees, fellow board members, and their spouses for the numerous accomplishments in 2019. Credit is given to all members in making Carolina Shores a special place to call home. Job well done to everyone!

The Christmas holiday is traditionally a time of giving and sharing with those that we love. Kindness and time with friends and family are special gifts to be cherished forever. ‘Tis the season to wish one another joy, love, and peace!

ACC Corner – Joe Martere, ACC Chairperson

This month we would like to address the issue of parking. As the demographics of our community have changed, some of us are experiencing parking problems due to additional persons residing in our homes. To accommodate this the Board has revised the parking guidelines under the Rules & Regulations Section III, Subsection A5, to read:

“Vehicles are only allowed to be regularly parked on the property owner’s driveway or parking area on the owner’s lot. Parking area on the property owner’s lot is defined as a concrete, stone or rock area adjoining the driveway specifically for use as a parking area. Parking elsewhere on the property is not allowed.”

The ACC requires an owner to submit an Alteration form if they wish to expand their parking area. This is approved if the additional and existing impervious area does not exceed the Town of Carolina Shores 50% restriction.

If you have any questions regarding this issue, please stop by or call the ACC at the CSPOA office.

You can call the office between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon with any questions you may have as to whether you require ACC approval, and we will advise you.

Knit ‘n Natter – Diana Mardall

Did you know Carolina Shores has an evening knitting/crocheting/needlework group? We meet every other Monday at 6:30 p.m. in the POA Board room off the kitchen. If you knit, crochet or do other needlework, stop by and join us. We’d love to see new faces.

The group meets and shares patterns and expertise. We work on a variety of projects including sweaters, cardigans, afghans, shawls, cross stitch, arm knitting (that was a blast!), etc. Usually we even have dessert!

Our meetings in December will be on the 9th and 23th at 6.30 p.m.

If you have any questions, email me at limeylady70@gmail.com or call me at 910-575-7804.

Garden Club Carol Filkins

At our November meeting we had an awesome presentation by Judy Thuer on pruning. Much of time was spent on how to prune Crepe Myrtles. There were many questions from members, and we learned a lot from Judy.

This month our annual Holiday luncheon is at the Parson’s Table on December 11. Hope you will be able to attend.

Our next meeting will be on January 8, 2020. Micki Bozeman will give a presentation on recycling and information on the free mulch program. We hope everyone can attend and don’t forget to bring a guest.

In February we are having a Card/Game party at the POA clubhouse to benefit the West Brunswick Scholarship fund. It will be catered by Calabash Deli and there will be homemade desserts and beverages including wine. The cost is $16. Tickets will be on sale at the January meeting.

Happy Holidays to All

New Horizons Carla Urban

MCj04398570000[1]Unfortunately, our November meeting had to be cancelled due to an illness and the weather. Mr. Joe Juskis who was our speaker for that meeting has agreed to come to our January 14 meeting. He has spent several years as a wastewater management chief. That meeting will center around the issue of the water treatment in our area. I know from speaking with him he will have some interesting things to tell us.

Our December meeting will be our Christmas Dinner at the Parsons Table in Little River. It will be held on the 12th which is a Thursday instead of the usual Tuesday.

The New Horizons Singles is open to all single residents of our area and meets on the second Tuesday of the month at 5:00 p.m. at the POA clubhouse, September through June. Hope to see lots of you there in January. If transportation is an issue, please contact me at 575-2339 and it will be arranged for you.

Happy Holidays

Book Discussion Group – Susie Riggs

stack of books isolated on white backgroundOur November reading selection was The Masterpiece by Fiona Davis. The novel is set in New York’s Grand Central Terminal during two time periods and is centered around Clara, an artist and teacher at the Grand Central School of Art in 1928, and Virginia, a divorced mother with a passion for art history, who worked in the terminal’s information booth in 1974. Our members enjoyed reading and discussing this book which not only had an engaging storyline, but also brought the history and excitement of Grand Central Terminal to life.

Our next meeting will be held on December 20 at 10:00 a.m. in the POA library. We’ll be discussing Girl Sleuth: Nancy Drew and the Women Who Created Her by Melanie Rehak. Our meetings are held on the third Friday of every month and we invite all interested Carolina Shores residents to join us.

Tennis News – Bob Anthony

Here is wishing all of you a very Merry Christmas and Happy, Healthy New Year. Open tennis is going strong thanks to some hardy, weather hardened folks. Remember open tennis occurs every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 9:00 a.m. All who show up will get to play. Skill Level is not a factor. Hope to see you out there.

The tennis community lost one of its own with the passing of Dee Gillin last month. Dee was a good player and always a lady, both on and off the tennis courts.

Low Impact Chair Aerobics Mary Timothy

Chair Aerobics meets every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday at 9:00 a.m. Yes, five days a week. The class is for everyone and there is no charge. You will need one-pound weights for beginners. Advanced students use your own judgment on weights.

Care Team – Beverly Rowse

http://thumbs.dreamstime.com/z/customer-care-team-d-isolated-43443409.jpgThe Care Team now has twenty-three (23) people available to help neighbors in need when a request comes to me. If you want to be a part of this team or if you no longer want to be on the list, please let me know. When a call for help comes to me, I reach out to the members on NextDoor. I don't get very many calls for help, but people are so very grateful for the assistance they get! It really doesn't take much to volunteer. Help with a small chore at home, an occasional ride, a temporary need for dog walking, etc. is usually what is needed.

So, neighbors, continue to let me know if you need help and I'll do my best to find someone. You don't have to be on NextDoor to request help. You can call me at 919-271-3005
